Welcome to the CAC

I used to think that LOL looked dumb, just hanging there in so many emails, posts, etc. I always read it "EL-OH-EL", and then would just screw up my face with a big, "Huh?" After awhile I figured out that it meant "laughing out loud" (yeah, I'm slow). And somewhere along the way, even though I told myself I never would, I started LOL-ing it through my own comments. That, and the occasional, "Btw", is about as acronym-savvy as I've become.

One breeze through Pre-Teen Daughter's emails, though--and, yes, I do snoop--and I found a whole new crop of married letters (But don't even get me started about all the grammatically-offensive shorthand I found there as well!). So here are a few of my favorites: BFF (best friends forever), KK (Okay, I don't know what this means but it looks so cute in all of those girlie emails she gets), TTYL (talk to you later), ROFLOL (rolling on floor laughing out loud), and UR (you are).

Okay, that last one's kind of dull. But still.

Anyway, I've come up with some of my own contributions to the Cyberspace Acronym Circus. Feel free to add your own, but one rule--keep it clean, people:

CMU--crackin' myself up
RME--rolling my eyes
BOOMM--bored out of my mind
GTTB--going to the beach

I remember back in Junior High when all the girls would get each other to sign their yearbooks. BFF was pretty common in those, even if the person wasn't really much of a friend at all. That and CM (call me) with a phone number. Of course that was before the days of email and IM.

One I've seen that you didn't mention is TTFN (ta ta for now).

I try not to use these if possible – something about them just offends my grammatical sensibilities – but sometimes they slip out anyway.

From a message board frequented by mom's & moms to be: ttc. Trying to concieve. Apparently that gets said so often it had to be put in an acronym. I'm never talking in full words again.

Here are some more 'nyms for your CAC (Cyberspace Acronym Circus):

FWIW = For What it's Worth
AAMOF = As a Matter of Fact
FTWDAK = For Those Who Don't Already Know
AFAIK = As Far as I Know
AWAK = As We All Know
SIAS = Say it Ain't So
BTW = By the Way
ROFL = Rolling on the Floor Laughing

FTWDAK, there is a large and growing body of acronyms in use by cybernuts. Among them are:

TIDL (pronounced tidal) = Thought I'd Die Laughing
WIYG-B-TWAI = Well, if You're Gonna be That Way About It
AISMBYOY = After I Spent My Best Years on You...
TWYB? = Those Were Your BEST?

There are many more out there, I'm sure. These are just off the top of my head.

Cheers,
Dan

I love RME! How about LMS (laughing myself silly.) I have a hard time trying to decifer some of my teenage daughter's emails too. I think texting is even worse!

I love Dan. I think I'll be using some of those.

The one I alsways see (and have fallen in to using) is IMO (In My opinion). One I hate is IMHO (Insert humble) because almost everytime it is used, the person absolutely believes whatever they are saying...ergo, not humble--highly opinionated. Hence my new one IMHOO. They may think it is a typo, but I know what I mean.

w/e can be weekend or whatever, depending on context. I use ttfn often, and almost as often, people say "Huh?" (lol).
